What Auto Insurance Limits Should I Have?

Hi, I’m Greg Masters, the owner of Masters Insurance Group. We’ve been serving central Ohio for over 30 years. And I got a quick question from the internet that came in, it says, “What coverage recommendation do you have for bodily injury?” The answer to that is, it varies. But typically for two cars and a home, we recommend $300,000 per person, $300,000 per occurrence. What we’ve seen out there as people call and get quotes, is $100,000 per person, $300,000 per occurrence. The difference in the two limits is let’s say you had an accident yesterday and ran over somebody in the crosswalk and they sued you for $200,000, and let’s face it, nobody wakes up in the morning and says, “Hey, today’s my day. I’m going to run over somebody in the crosswalk.” These things do happen. So, with the $100,000 limit, and they sue you for 200, the insurance company will pay the first $100,000 and then you would be responsible for the next $100,000. Not a very good scenario.
Again, our recommendation is $300,000. Again, it’s just a little bit more cost for that, but it is so worth it. There’s other things that we can do to the auto policy to reduce costs, take a look at deductibles where your exposure is much reduced. But again, in that same scenario at $300,000, you are fully covered, there’s nothing more out of pocket from you.
So, again, feel free to give us a call. Our slogan is, we are right here, and we are. So, give us a call today at 614-471-7676, and talk to one of our professionals. We have over 300 years of combined agency experience in here and we’d love to talk to you. Thank you.
